I had such a special experience a few months ago that was really touching. We have a friend that has a daughter that is terminally ill (lets call her Amy). Amy is very sick all the time and has multiple seizures on a daily basis- basically she has a rough life. Our friend contacted us to see if we could paint with her, it would be something that she would love and it would be something that she could make and leave behind. Acrylic pouring is so easy to do that anyone can do it, even if you are sick. Of course I was at her house the next day!
The family had a very special gift left on their doorstep that has changed their lives. It is a monitor that monitors Amy day and night and alert the caregiver if there is a problem. This allowed Amy's mom to get some sleep at night! Before this monitor, Amy's mom had to basically stay up all night making sure she was ok. Amy's mom wanted to repay this kind anonymous person by having Amy do a painting for them.
When I showed up, their whole family was there. I had them do a unity painting to start off. Everyone chose the colors they wanted in their cups and we put them all on the canvas. It turned out so beautiful and I hope that this will bring joy to the family for many years.
Amy was the cutest and sweetest girl ever. She was so happy to be painting though. She loves to paint. She thought acrylic pouring was so cool and easy to do. She kept saying, "I am so tired, but I am having too much fun!" After the unity painting they did, we started the painting for the person that donated the monitor to them. Amy started picking out her colors very carefully. She picked some white and red, then she picked brown and said, "I will do this one because it reminds me of chocolate!" She didn't know who gave her that special gift, but she was convinced that they LOVED chocolate.
She wanted to do a painting for her "BFF." Come to find out that her BFF is her grandma (she was so cute). She chose all the colors that her BFF loved and it turned out amazing. When she was done she was ready to do another one!
She then did a painting for her mom. She chose all of her mom's favorite colors and began painting. It was beautiful and I know that her mom is going to cherish that painting til the end of time.
After Amy painted her mom's painting, she did not have enough energy to paint another one even though she wanted to. She thanked me and gave me a big huge. I have to be honest, I was totally holding back my tears. As soon as I got in the car, I let it all out. I cried all the way home and not the cute cry either- it was the ugly cry. She was so sweet, and I will never forget painting with her.
Who knew that acrylic pouring would give me so many special experiences. I have met so many people, and had so super fun and memorable moments. I have done more paint parties than I could have imagined and my paint kits are reaching people around the world. This painting is so unique in that everyone no matter what can paint!
